The Health Benefits of Radishes

I like radishes for their strong peppery flavour and love them in salads. This summer I grew my own and have so many that I have been eating them everyday. Radishes are a root vegetable and are part of the brassica family (cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts). They come in different varieties, shapes and colours. My favourite are the small red ones.

Health Benefits of Radishes

They regulate blood pressure.

Are rich in fibre so are good for constipation.

Good for intestinal parasites.

Help if you have jaundice to eliminate excess bilirubin from the body and controls its production.

Detoxifies and protects the liver.

Helps if you suffer from arthritis.

Helps with gastric issues.

Protects red blood cells.

Good for gall and kidney stones.

Vitamins and Minerals found in radishes

Very high in vitamin C. Also contain potassium, calcium, manganese, vitamin B6. Radishes produce a compound called Indole-3-carbinol which protects against cancer, especially against hormonal cancers, protects the liver and detoxifies the body.

How to use radishes

Radishes are best eaten raw in order to get the full benefits. I eat mine in salads. You can however use them in stir fries if you prefer or slice them and place in the oven with himalayan salt and olive oil making little radish crisps. Which ever way you decide to eat them, enjoy!
