We Are Not Templates
Every single one of us is unique and complex. We have different genetic makeups, hormone profiles, gut microbiomes, stress levels, sleep patterns, emotional histories, responsibilities and lifestyles. What works for your best friend, your favourite influencer, or even a past version of you may not work today. That’s because we’re always evolving, physically, mentally, and emotionally.
Despite this, many health plans treat us as if we’re interchangeable. A single PDF with one-size-fits-all instructions might seem simple and attractive at first. If it worked for others, it must work for us – right? And yes, in some ways, if we are dealing with the broadest idea of what health and fitness looks like, for example, eating a balanced, nutritional diet with fresh foods, getting exercise, good sleep, reducing stress and drinking water. Yet, it’s getting into the details of our uniqueness that makes our health goals a reality.
Our histories, lifestyles, how we think and feel about food and exercise, how our bodies digest food, how we move towards goals, the reasons behind our fitness goals – all of that matters when it comes to success. In reality, there is no one-size-fits-all health plan that will accommodate all of that. Because when we strip away our uniqueness, we also strip away what makes healing sustainable. And healing is part of the health journey.
The Missing Piece: Your Lived Experience
I often find people think they’ve “failed” a plan, yet it’s more likely the plan failed them. Because it didn’t consider their emotional relationship with food. The health plan didn’t take into account their menstrual cycle or perimenopause symptoms. It didn’t ask how they sleep, how much they enjoy their meals, or how they feel after eating.
A good health plan asks more than “what are you eating?” It asks:
- How do you feel?
- What are you needing in this moment?
- What’s working for your life right now?
- What’s not working and needs to change?
- What needs to heal for you to truly move forward?
It doesn’t tell you what you need or should be doing. It works with you to uncover what’s holding you back, and what’s going to move you towards your health goals.
Because let’s be honest, no meal or exercise plan can prepare you for the chaos of real life. The sudden work trip. The ups and downs of a relationship. The sick child or elderly parent. The exhaustion. The cravings after a terrible night’s sleep. Real health coaching helps you adapt and fits into your life – not someone else’s idea of what life is like.
Why Personalised Health Plans Work

- Self-honouring: They respect your emotional, physical, and energetic needs.
It also helps to have someone walking beside you, not to tell you what to do, but to help you figure out what works best for you. Because deep down, you already have wisdom inside you. Health coaching simply helps you access it. Accountability also ensures you keep to the plan and keep showing up for yourself.
